March 9, 2020
- The Microbiology program offers several scholarships for outstanding undergraduate students. They include: the Maurice Ogur Memorial Prize, in honor of our former Department Chair; the Microbiology Alumni Scholarship and the Student Leadership Award, both funded by donations from former students; and the Faculty Scholarship in Microbiology, funded primarily through faculty donations.

- Funding effort for Microbiology Student Organization (MSO) at Pagliai's Pizza, Oct 15th, 5p to 8pm. Come in enjoy good food and good people. Tell the register you are with the MSO and 15% of the bill will go to funding MSO activities. Register here, a minimum of 20 people to initiate the event.

The Microbiology Student Organization (MSO) will be ordering T-shirts soon, so if you would like to order one or more, please email Randy at randymreeder@siu.edu by next Wednesday (March 27th). The shirts will be somewhere between $10-$20.

- Southern Illinois University Carbondale will once again honor Darwin with Darwin Week, featuring speakers and spotlighting microbes and plants. Thursday and Friday guest speaker Dr. Stanley Maloy will be talking about microbial evolution.

- Undergraduate Amanda Blocker and REACH recipient, is recognized for her research discovery of a novel phylum of bacteria, given the strain name SIUC1. Check out the article in the Southern Illinoisan Link, KFVS channel 12 Link and WSIL Channel 3 Link.
Nov 8th to 16th, 2018
- Cinema & Photography/Science Gallery exhibit of works from the honors class Critical Creative Thinking. Students will have their projects on display open to the public in Gallery 1101 of the Communications Building. A reception will be held on November 15th with food and drink.

- SIU Microbiology in da' house!! The Microbiology Department makes a guest appearance on Z100 New Country Radio talking about microbes in the workplace, in this case a radio station. See and hear the microbial fun in the morning. Link

- Congratulations to Dr. Fisher's and Dr. Plunkett's research on inhibitor of phosphatases in Chlamydia trachomatis. The latest NIH funding brings the total to almost $860,000 since 2014 at the start of this research. Check out the article online in The Southern Illinoisan Link.
