Student Organization

The Microbiology Student Organization (MSO) is a registered student organization (RSO) on the SIU Carbondale campus. MSO is open to all students and is primarily composed of microbiology undergraduate majors and majors in other biological sciences. The "Micro Club", as it is usually referred to, organizes scientific and social activities geared towards the common interests members have in microorganisms and the field of microbiology. Activities of the MSO include special faculty lectures, small group study sessions, tutoring opportunities, and visits to companies in the microbiology business. Trips in the past few years have included visits to Abbot Laboratories (North Chicago), Monsanto Company (St. Louis), and Anheuser-Busch breweries (St. Louis). MSO members sponsor a departmental picnic in the spring and often work in departmental laboratories to gain research experience. MSO is governed by officers elected by the members and is advised by a professor from the Microbiology program.

For more information, or to join the MSO, contact the faculty advisor or one of the officers listed below.
